Can I paint my old Baxi gas fire?

By admin

We moved into our house about a year ago. We are currently decorating our sitting room in black and white colour scheme, however we have a hideous old style Baxi gas fire with the wood surround. Is there any way that we can paint the wood (keeping all the metal parts showing) black? We do NOT intend to use the fire again as we have just mounted the tv above the fire. This is just a solution until we can find the money to take away the fire and replace the boiler, which both unfortunately need to be done at the same time! Any ideas for painting it? Would normal matt or gloss paint be ok if we are not using the fire?
Thanks!

Matt emulsion is definately not Ok. There is black heat resistant fire grate type paint you will find, if not at a B&Q then at a smaller decorators merchants.

if your not emitting heat from the fire then you can use any type of paint you wish..for durability though i would have to suggest an oil based paint ( gloss,eggshell.satinwood).
